In early March 2020, the Lesotho and Zambia country workshops were successfully held in Maseru and Lusaka. However, due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the South African in-country workshop planned for April has been postponed until May.
The regional Training of Trainers Course, earlier scheduled for July 2020, is now scheduled for September 2020 at Rhodes University, South Africa.
The policy dialogue for the 2019 group will be moved forward and will be aligned with the policy dialogue of the 2020 group, thereby allowing cross interaction across six countries and their policy makers. Further details of this will be communicated in due course.

Flying under the UNESCO #learningneverstops, South Africa held her Sustainability Starts with Teachers (SST) startup workshop on 23 June 2020. Held in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the virtual workshop had 84 attendees including Teacher educators and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) educators from all corners of the country, senior government officials and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) experts.
This startup workshop kick-started the implementation of the programme in South Africa.
Participants were able to develop a shared understanding of the context for ESD in the country, initiate the implementation of the SST programme, sharing its vision, objectives and expected impact as well as discussing the implementation processes of the programme.

Teachers play a critical role in enhancing sustainability and quality provision of education,more importantly, in identifying and focusing on education systems capable of responding to the needs of society. Therefore,teachers must feel the obligation to answer the call to play their role in this matter in every possible way and the time is now.
Teachers implement educational changes and change that starts with teachers goes a long way in all spheres of life
Capacitating teachers for early childhood education to basic education and training in TVET paradigm shifts accolade education for sustainable development from as early age whereby dependency to education for employment is shifted to education for sustainability whereby dependency in employment culture and heritage is being shifted to self-sustainability.
Great start! Embracing communities where possible is important as teachers and learners are from these very communities.
